My name is David Sprinkle, newly appointed Principal at Alma Bryant, the BEST HIGH SCHOOL IN THE MOBILE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM.
I say that with great pride as I truly believe that Alma Bryant is the best school in the district because of its great staff, students, and most importantly a community that loves and supports our school. Before I tell you about myself and the vision I have for Alma Bryant, I want to thank Superintendent Threadgill and the Board of Education, especially Dr. Foster, for allowing me the opportunity to serve the community that I was born and raised in.
My wife Tasha and I have three beautiful girls: Analese, Ansleigh, and Ashton. I am a graduate of Alba High School and she is a graduate of Alma Bryant. My wife is also in education as a teacher at Griggs Elementary, so education is our life. We were both born and raised in this community and have many friends and family members throughout. With that said, I can assure you that while I serve as your Principal there will be a great sense of pride in everything that I do.
I just finished my 19th year in education in the Mobile County Public School System. I began my career at Hankins Middle where I spent two years as a Special Education teacher. I then came home to Alma Bryant where I had already begun my coaching career as the Head JV Baseball Coach two years prior. In my thirteen years at Bryant I served in many roles. The biggest role was being the Head Baseball Coach. During my tenure as the Head Baseball Coach we won 75 percent of our games, 4 regional championships, made the state playoffs 6 seasons, had 8 seasons with 20 plus wins, back to back 30 plus win seasons, and finished in the top 10 in the State 5 years. We had well over 30 players sign full paid college scholarships and built one of the best facilities in the State. But the most important thing that we focused on was developing young men into people of character, teaching them a strong work ethic, teaching them to believe that they can accomplish anything with hard work and commitment, and most all motivating them to believe that Alma Bryant could beat anyone that we stepped on the field against! In 2015, I began the next chapter of my life by becoming an administrator. With great pain, I had to leave the school that I love to go to Mary G. Montgomery where I served as an Assistant Principal for 2 years. I then came back to Alma Bryant for 1 year in 2017 as an Assistant Principal. For the past 2 years I have served as the Head Principal at Causey Middle, the biggest Middle School in the State of Alabama in terms of student population. While at Causey we were able to improve our State school report card from a 79 to an 83 in just one year, we raised over 40k to make multiple facility upgrades, we built new computer labs, purchased a new state of the art digital sign, and purchased a brand new lawnmower. As the principal of Causey, I also served on the Superintendents task force to develop the COVID academic continuity plan in March. I was also a proud member of the Superintendents Inaugural Leadership Academy for critical leaders within MCPSS. Our leadership team developed a marketing plan to retain our top students, in which our school grew over 250 students in just two years. With all that said, I feel like God lead me to this point in my career to come home and serve my community once again as the Principal of Alma Bryant.
As your Principal, we will focus on several things to ensure success. We will first focus on creating a safe school where our parents trust us with their children. We will develop a school culture where students and staff always treat each other with respect and learn to appreciate each other. We will focus on creating a warm and inviting atmosphere where bullying is never accepted. We will make learning fun by using creative teaching strategies and technology driven lessons. We will focus on developing students by focusing on academics, athletics, fine arts, social activities, and emotional growth. We will teach our students to take pride in Alma Bryant in all that we do, and not only how to work for success but to expect it! We will focus on developing alumni associations and highlighting all the wonderful students that have walked our halls and went on to do great things. We will also focus on retaining ALL our students in the area to keep them here at OUR school, and not driving out of our area to attend another school! We want you to be a Hurricane because we ARE the BEST HIGH SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT! My door will always be open to address any concerns from students, parents, and teachers. Always keep this in mind, we are in this together and will do whatever it takes to ensure success for the students of OUR community! Go Canes!
