Q: I keep hearing that the number of people catching the flu is on the rise. I do not want to catch the virus and get sick. Is it too late to get a flu shot?
A: You are in luck because it is never too late to receive a flu shot. The Alabama Department of Public Health is reporting significant influenza activity for Mobile County. The flu can affect people differently. It is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Your best defense to fend off the flu is to get vaccinated. Accordia Health is prepared to protect you and your family from the virus.

In addition to the flu shot, there are other steps you can take to stop the spread of the flu. Wash your hands frequently, using soap, for at least 15 seconds. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, and mouth. Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. If you do find yourself sick with the flu, stay home, and get plenty of rest. Mind your flu manners. On the first day you have symptoms, call your work or school and tell them you will not be coming in for a few days. You are sick and very contagious! Take advantage of the downtime and give your body some much-needed rest.
