Q: What is the difference in the types of flu shots that are available?
A: At our pharmacy, we carry both the quadrivalent flu vaccine and the high-dose flu vaccine. The quadrivalent version is intended for individuals less than 65 years old, and it contains what is expected to be the four most common strains of the flu virus this season. The high-dose version is only indicated for people 65 years and older, and it contains the three most commonly expected strains. However, it does contain higher levels of these strains to provide improved coverage for this population group. Both vaccines only require one dose annually and should give coverage for the entirety of the flu season.
