Alma Bryant High School 21st Century Community Learning Center Students Enjoy Academic and Industry Tours During Summer Break!
Alma Bryant High School 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) students have enjoyed another busy summer participating in numerous activities, including a visit to the AT&T Global Calling Center located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The trip was sponsored by Junior Achievement of Mobile (JAM) and incorporated several training activities and lunch provided by JAM. Students also visited the GulfQuest National Maritime Museum in Mobile, Alabama, the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama and the WonderWorks Museum in Panama City Beach, Florida.
Back on campus at ABHS, students completed various service projects, enjoyed several college and career presentations, participated in health and wellness activities, and enjoyed learning about the importance of practicing good food safety and sanitation skills while preparing food for themselves and others. Mrs. Angie Thompson provided a special closing day activity for the students with a historical presentation on the Holocaust. She encouraged the students to appreciate their youth and to learn from the experiences of those less fortunate.
Alma Bryant High School (ABHS) was fortunate to receive the 21st CCLC grant that provided the activities mentioned above from the United States Department of Education. The grant funding allows ABHS to continue offering community and student enrichment programs throughout August, and hopefully, longer if additional funding is approved. All 8th-11th-grade students in Southwest Mobile County were offered an opportunity to apply for the enrichment program; the first fifty students to apply were accepted to participate this summer.
