Grand Bay Library Update
Thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development (Gulf Coast RC&D), the front door canopy has been installed, and the new doors now have protective kick plates. The Gulf Coast RC&D has been a supporter of the Grand Bay Library since the projects start, having given the initial $25,000 for Engineering and Architectural plans. During the project, they have also granted funds to restore the windows and complete roof repairs.
The renovation project has been published for contractor bids by the Mobile County Commission and contract to complete the library renovations should be awarded sometime in June or July. A projected completion date is early 2020.
The Grand Bay Library, in the historic district, will be located in the Grand Bay State Bank building (c1913). It will be more than just books; it will be a state-of-the-art public library and a regional branch of the Mobile Public Library System, serving over 25,000 residents of Southwest Mobile County.
