First Annual Forks and Corks Competition Participants from Alma Bryant High School Recognized
Culinary Team members from Alma Bryant High School participated recently in the First Annual Forks and Corks Culinary Competition sponsored by the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. High school culinary teams from all Mobile County high schools were invited to attend. The ABHS Culinary team placed second in the competition with their Louisiana Styled Crab Claws Bordelaise. Participating team members were: Diana Le; Vatzana Phichitchareunsak; Timmy Nguyen; Sandra Sok; Miller Wongsa; Kevin Ha; Daniel Beng; Alyssa Moiren and Makayla Hamilton. Davidson High School Culinary placed first, and Baker High School Culinary placed third in the competition.
Dixon Elementary School Archers Honored
The Bayou La Batre City Council recently recognized the 2018 Dixon Elementary School Archery Team for a successful competition season; the school is currently ranked number one in the State of Alabama. Team members faithfully practice before school, and after school. Several DES archers have also been recognized as academic archers, as well. Team members are: Mia Cornelson (Alabama-Top Ranked Elementary School Student); Isaiah Younce; Wynn Buzbee; Frankie Stork; Trace Ladnier; Shane Bosarge; Dalton Deakle; Lily Schultz; Jamarrion Pugh; Anna Taylor; Alina Wright; Abraham Collier; Carter Smith; Julie Khan; Trenton McNeer; Brian Otto; Adrian Harbison; Malani Payne; Lesondra Jones; Angel Parks; Addison Cole; Gabrielle Kevoravang; Keegan Obrien; Katie Patrick; Annah Edwards; John Williams; Parker Foutz; Lily Smith; Cierra Vance; Jackson Ard; Aiden Hopkins and Keegan Hewett. Coach Faye Hussong was also recognized for her excellence as a coach and mentor. Congratulations DES Archers on your accomplishments! We are very proud of you all!
The Alma Bryant High School Theatre Department Excels at State Competition
The Alma Bryant High School (ABHS) theatre department, under the direction of Alexandria Silva, recently traveled to Troy University to compete against students from all over the State of Alabama in the Walter Trumbauer Theatre Festival. ABHS students brought home a 3rd place trophy, in group musical, and two All-Star Cast members (This is a 1st in over eight years for Alma Bryant). Ondre Turner (11), Anthony Rivers (11), and Dennis Taylor (10) won 3rd place in the Group Musical category. Kassidy Bolton (9) and Aidan Pelt (11) were recognized for their outstanding performances in our student-written play. We also had three seniors audition for collegiate theatre programs within Alabama. Jennifer Tolbert, Camryn Simmons, and Justin Radcliff received over 15 callbacks and were recruited by these schools. Other participating students and their competition results are: Claudia Acosta- Excellent; Juliea Dixon- Superior (placed within top 5); Rhiannon Strickland- Superior; Aidan Pelt- Excellent; Justin Radcliff- Excellent; Avery Chaisson- Superior; Xavier Robinson- Superior; James Knowles and Tyler Walters- Excellent; Camryn Simmons and Jasmine Silloway- Superior; Haley Pettis and Ashleigh Nelson- Superior; Kassidy Bolton and Sydney Rouse- Excellent; Justin Radcliff, Ricardo Torres, Juliea Dixon, Destiny Russell, Xavier Robinson, and David Harris- Excellent; Wyatt Morgan and Hallie Carter- Excellent; Dennis Taylor- Superior; Ava Parent, Hallie Carter, Sydney Rouse, Kassidy Bolton, Laney Taylor- Excellent and “Not Alone,” a play written by Jennifer Tolbert (12) and Ashleigh Nelson (11) received an Excellent rating. Aidan Pelt and Kassidy Bolton were also selected as All-Star Cast Members. Congratulations ABHS Theatre! Job well done!
