Fall is here! Folks have been busy about town working on various activities. Football season at Zirlott Park has come to a close just in time for youth basketball registration at the Bayou La Batre Community Center. Kudos to Shane Esfeller and all the players, coaches, and parents on another great season! Our weekends have also been busy with church benefits and fall festivals and we have more to come as we close out October with committee meetings to plan for the Christmas Holidays in the city! Keep an eye on Mariner Park at the splash pad for Christmas on the Bayou! If you would like to sponsor a lighted street ornament, please call (251) 454-4417 and we will provide more information on pricing.

The Bayou La Batre Utility Board has now completed the $6 million dollar CIAP Grant to extend sewer services to residents of the outlying areas of South West Coden. The service also connects to the new $6 million dollar extension from the Mobile County, Water, Sewer and Fire Protection Authority in Theodore, Alabama. These connections will hopefully improve the watershed in our surrounding communities as the effluent will now be processed at the Buford L. Bryant Waste Water Treatment facility in Coden, Alabama.
As we move into the month of November, I am reminded of the many blessings I have experienced in my life and one of the greatest has been the opportunity to work in public service. The last few years have brought many changes to our city, and more will follow as we all continue to work together to improve our facilities, recreational opportunities and the services provided to all. Please join us for the swearing in of the 2016-2020 Council on November 7 at 5:30 p.m. A reception will follow the ceremony and I look forward to seeing you all there.
