Although summer is drawing to a close, Dauphin Island is still the place to be to enjoy a variety of family-friendly events.
Inaugural Massacre Island
September 17-18 (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily) In 1711, pirates stormed Mobile Bay and attacked Dauphin Island, dubbed “massacre island” by Pierre Lemoyne after discovering a huge pile of human skeletons. Come and see pirates as they pilfer and pillage Isle Dauphine and fight against Spanish and British Galleons. Witness flintlock pistol duels, pirate tug-o-war, swashbuckling sword play, cannon firings, blacksmith demonstrations and period music by the Kracker Dan Band. There will also be a treasure hunt for kids twelve and under! Tickets for the Massacre Island event $8. Ages 5 through 12 are $4, and children ages 4 and under are free. Final Sunset Concert of the 2016
Sunday, October 9 at 5:00 p.m.
The popular group Roman Street will perform at the West End Beach. This one will be extra special as local and regional chefs will be on hand to prepare locally grown oysters for you to sample. Proceeds from this event will support the relocation and re-purposing of the historic Little Red Schoolhouse. Admission to the concert is $5 per person. Ages 12 and under are free. Patrons are encouraged to bring beach chairs, blankets and bug spray (just in case).
Stirring the Sand

The Dauphin Island Heritage and Arts Council will host this series, which features live storytelling by life-long and long-term residents at the gallery (918 Bienville Blvd.) admission is free! Tents will be erected, but you’ll need to bring a folding chair or blanket to enjoy the show.

Art Trail will showcase more than 50 local and regional artists at 10 different island businesses that are all connected with a free shuttle service for your convenience. Be sure to pick up your free copy of a Trail Map and have it stamped at each of the various locations to be eligible for an assortment of fantastic prizes!
Inaugural Tri-the-Gulf triathlon
Saturday, October 15
1/3 – mile swim, 13.3 – mile bike ride and 3.1 – mile run. The event is sponsored by the Mobile Bar Foundation and the Mobile Sports Authority and will be headquartered at the Isle Dauphine complex. More info @ trithegulf.com.
