Bayou La Batre City Councilman Henry Barnes was recently recognized by the Alabama League of Municipalities for completing certification as an Advanced Certified Municipal Official. Councilman Barnes has participated in numerous hours of training throughout his service as a municipal official, which allows him to bring valuable resources back to the council as they seek to serve the community. The 5th Annual Kayak Classic Plans Underway for Saturday, August 4, 2018
The 5th Annual Bayou La Batre Kayak Classic will take place on August 4th, 2018 at the State Docks in Bayou La Batre. The fishing portion of the tournament will begin around 6:00 am, with weigh in starting at 10:00 am and closing at 3:00 pm. The awards ceremony will occur immediately afterwards. There will be both adult angler and junior angler divisions competing for over $10,000 in prizes as well as the title of Master Angler and Junior Master Angler. Live entertainment (courtesy of Disciples of the Crow), bayou boat tours, vendors, t-shirts, arts and crafts and delicious food will help keep the entire family entertained throughout the day. Our community has recently experienced the loss of several outstanding citizens, former neighbors and friends in the surrounding area. Beautiful tributes of love, honor and gratitude were extended by family and friends at services held recently for Sharon Winstanley, Jan Clarke; Brian Wheeler; Brittany McClendon; Hugh Augustus McClellan; Bonnie Jean Eyler; Mr. Buddy Graham; Marion Delcomyn Seward; Donna M. Wilson; Hieu Manh Nguyen; Candace Ruth Johnson; Barbara Carpenter and Sandra Cholar Cain. While they may not be present in the flesh, their love will continue to embrace those they loved and cherished.
