Grand Bay’s Salon 8:31, formally known as Fashion Flair, has recently experienced many changes including ownership. Caitlin Trehern, a 2015 Bryant High School graduate, has exceeded anyone’s expectations for a small town twenty year old girl. She has turned her aspiration of cutting and styling hair into running her own full time business in her home town. After graduating from high school with an impressive GPA,Caitlin pushed herself through the cosmetology program at Charles Academy in Mobile in a matter of about ten months.
Once she graduated there, the previous owners of Fashion Flair offered to sell her the business. Caitlin says she never would have dreamed she would own her own shop. After conversing with her father, Caitlin was able to accept their offer. Her dad continues to help her with the ins and outs of owning your own business for which she is grateful. When asked how being a young business owner has scaled according to her expectations, Caitlin says, “It has its moments where you can’t just take off to go do whatever you want to do. You have to be here every time the door is open. But overall the pros outweigh the cons. I love it.”
From the very beginning, Caitlin remodeled and renamed the shop so that she could feel proud to call it her own. The name Salon 8:31 comes from her favorite Bible verse: Romans 8:31 which holds the popular phrase “if God is for us, who can be against us?” Caitlin takes pride in calling Salon 8:31 a Christian business. Another changeCaitlin hopes to make in the near future involves their clientele. “I want the salon to be open to anybody. Right now we have mostly women and children, but I want this to be a family shop where everyone feels welcome.” Among all of the changes, a few things have stayed the same.
If you relied on Fashion Flair for your hair needs in the past, your previous hairdresser remains available for your services. Caitlin hopes to add to the staff more in the future and she strives to stay up to date with the latest hair styles, trends, and hair care. She and her staff are experienced in balayage, shadow roots, ombre, highlights, and any of your other color needs. Gift certificates and holiday specials are available by liking their Facebook page at Salon 8:31. You may make an appointment through Facebook or by phone, but walk ins are also welcome. Salon 8:31 is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9am to 4pm and on Saturday from 9am to 2pm. Appointments outside of normal business hours are available if requested ahead of time. Caitlin has plans to expand Salon 8:31’s services in the future, but for now we wish her the best as her venture as a young business owner has only just begun.
