Can I take cold medications if I have high blood pressure?
Yes, there is a specific medication for colds called Coricidin® HBP that is designed for patients with hypertension (high blood pressure). Most other cold medications contain a decongestant that helps relieve congestion and stuffiness, however, it can also elevate blood pressure. The Coricidin® products do not contain this ingredient. If this specific brand is not available, talk to your pharmacist about other options that are safer for patients with hypertension.
