Congratulations are sent out to Alma Bryant High School seniors Justin Gambrell, Michael Wyatt and John Patrick on their signing with Austal USA for their Youth Apprenticeship Program. The 12-week program begins on Feb. 17 and students will earn $8 an hour while being trained on the various crafts utilized to build the aluminum ships constructed at Austal. The students will be participating in a twelve-week program that will lead to a full four-year apprenticeship, and the next step toward a full-time career with Austal Shipbuilding.
The Crichton Optimist Club recently selected Alma Bryant High school student, Cameron McNeil as their Player of the Week. Cameron is an outstanding all-around basketball player for Alma Bryant, and he is an excellent choice for this recognition.
The Regional Scott Hi-Q was held recently at Alma Bryant High School. Alma Bryant finished the regular season of the HiQ academic competition in first place and earned a bye into the finals on March 10. Congratulations, Hurricanes!
The Alma Bryant High School Robotics/ROTC teams placed first and third at the VEX Robotics competition held on Feb. 6, 2020. Team 1 – 1st place and robot design award winners were: Surtee de Lorge; Foxx Harrison; Summer Pettis and Jeannie Vaughn. Team Two and 3rd place award winners were: Ethan Humphrey; Donald Chanthirath; Arthur Byrd and Jamie Purcell. Sponsors are Amanda Hutto, Chief Adam Bryant, Mrs. Mary Hand, and Mr. Jacob Watford.
The Mobile/Baldwin Regional Archery Tournament was held on February 19-21, 2020 at Alma Bryant High School. Over 800 students from numerous elementary, middle, high school and home-schools participated throughout the three days. A full accounting of the event will be posted in April, however, congratulations are extended to Coach Roy Richardson and the Alma Bryant Archery Team on placing first in the high school division, to the Alba Middle School Archers, under the direction of Coach Rachel Seaman for their 3rd place win and to Dixon Elementary School for their 1st place win under the guidance of Coach Faye Hussong.
In closing, my heart goes out to the members of our community who have recently lost loved ones. I pray that your hearts will be comforted during this time.
