Deciding on what, when, where, and how to advertise is an ongoing battle with various events that churches put on. At The Connection what we want to do is help suppress that battle a little. Since the beginning of the paper almost 14 years ago the paper has connected the community through posting upcoming events. With the many churches that we have in our reach of Dauphin Island, Bayou la Batre, Grand Bay, St. Elmo, and Irvington it is very time-consuming and inefficient to try and contact each church one by one. In the past couple of years we have tried this approach and many times our calls fall on deaf ears. Some churches do not have a phone number or a wrong number is listed in the phone book and internet, some have hung up on us because they think we are looking for money, and a very low percentage we do reach. When we are not able to get in touch with the churches we are not able to relay good information to the public. Many times we get calls or emails asking about specific events and much of the time we have to reply with an, “I do not know” answer.
We believe that the reason why a lot of our calls or connections fall on deaf ears is that we are thought to be relaying a monetary message. This could not be further from the truth. This is what we have always offered and will continue to offer to churches and community organizers; free placement of monthly events in our Area Events section of the paper. Meaning, if you have an upcoming event we want to list it in the paper for absolutely zero cost. We offer this because we want our community to be stronger, and for it to be stronger it has to be connected together. There are a couple of restrictions to this but for the most part, if you are a church or community organizer and have an event that is coming up, send it into us and allow us to place it in the area events section for people to know to come to it. This is an absolutely free service that we provide for the community. Be sure to keep note that monthly recurring events get bumped down the list for those that are yearly. For example, if there is a monthly meeting at the community center it will get bumped if we do not have enough space to list it for another event that is a one time a year event.
In 2019 we hope to be giving you the best cumulative information of events in the South Mobile County community. So please send all events to info@theconnectionpaper.com or text or leave a voicemail with the event description to (251) 210-7018. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
