Q: What are some ways to treat and prevent canker sores in your mouth?
A: A canker sore is an ulcer in the soft tissue of your mouth that is painful and irritating. They are not contagious and usually heal on their own. To help the healing process, you can make a homemade rinse of 2 oz. hydrogen peroxide, 2 oz. water, 1 teaspoonful of baking soda, & 1 teaspoonful of salt. Mix these together and rinse (do not swallow) several times a day. For prevention, supplements that contain folate, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12, and zinc may be beneficial.
