An Q&A with Grand Bay Pharmacy’s Ross Hatcher, Pharm.D.
What is your connection to the Grand Bay community?
I have lived in Grand Bay my whole life except for a couple of years when my wife and I lived in Tennessee. We couldn’t stay away long without feeling a pull to move back home to the community I know so well.
Tell us a little about your wife and children.
My wife, Betty Clair, is originally from Tallassee, Ala. We met while in pharmacy school and were married in 2008. She is also a pharmacist and works part-time at Mobile Infirmary, but you may also see her in our store from time to time. We have three daughters, Blair, 5, Helen, 3, and Lydia, 6 months.
What is your schooling background?
I grew up in Grand Bay and attended Castlen Elementary as a child and later graduated from Alma Bryant. After that, I attended Faulkner State Community College before transferring to Auburn University
where I completed my degree in pharmacy.
What inspired you to become a pharmacist?
As a teenager, I always had a keen interest in science and wanted to utilize that in a way that could help people.
Where have you previously worked as a pharmacist?
I worked for CVS for two years immediately after graduation. I then spent the next six years working for Winn Dixie.
What was your reaction when you were approached with the opportunity to be a part owner in Grand Bay pharmacy?
I was honored at the chance to be involved in a meaningful way with the Grand Bay community again. I grew up here and my children now go to school here, so it is a great privilege to be a part of a community that means so much to me.
What do you hope to bring to the Grand Bay Pharmacy family?
I hope to continue to maintain the friendly service that Jim Cooper and Gregg Gearon have provided for the community for so many years. I also hope to get the store more involved in community activities and events.
What would you like to share current customers?
I am truly excited about being able to get to know more people of the community and helping to improve their healthcare. I care a lot about Grand Bay and will do my best for many years to take care of our citizens and make sure we provide great service for their prescription and other medical needs.
What would you like to share with those not customers?
We provide excellent service with smiling faces that you can not always find at large, chain pharmacies. We accept most insurance plans, including Medicaid, Medicare, Blue Cross, Medco, United HealthCare, OptumRx, CVS/Caremark, PEEHIP, Express Scripts, TriCare, and many others. Co-pays would be the same as any major chain pharmacy.
When can we see you at the pharmacy?
I am at the pharmacy almost every day we are open, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m, and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. I would love for anyone considering switching pharmacies or those needing a new pharmacy to stop by and meet our staff.
